What we are all about

Founded in 1941, the Citizens' Council of La Grange is a nonpartisan volunteer organization that serves residents of La Grange by seeking, evaluating and recommending candidates for the Village, the Park District and the Library boards.
Prior to every election to these governing boards, the Council asks each candidate to complete an application, thoroughly outlining their skills, level of experience, character references and vision for the future. When all applications have been reviewed, candidates are interviewed separately at a Council meeting open to the public. Afterwards, the Council votes --without regard to political affiliation-- to recommend ("slate") those candidates who the Council believes will best serve the residents of La Grange.
The Council is just that -- a council of citizens for citizens. It is not a caucus or a political party. The Counil strives to encourage and sustain the best possible government for all LaGrange citizens. It does this through a membership that consists of representatives from each of 11 voting districts within La Grange.
A broad membership can serve Council members with an awareness and insight into issues throughout the community. It also can serve as a source of residents' thoughts and opinions that can help guide the Council's work to ensure the continued benefits of an open, honest and intelligent government for all of La Grange.
